1962 DAIMLER DART SP250

Very Rare Ex-Metropolitan Police car.

This is an award winning example of Daimler’s rare and individual sports car. Only 1453 right hand drive cars were ever produced and this is one of the 26 cars that the Metropolitan police used to chase motorcyclists around the North and South Circular.

670 ELL is probably one of the most visible SP’s ever. For the last thirteen seasons it has been used as a course car at the world famous Goodwood Revival meeting. You may have seen it being driven by one of the Clerks of the Course around the circuit before and after each race or leading one of the featured parade laps. The car has gained the reputation of being the best and most reliable car the officials use there. It has also been featured in several magazines.

With its present owner for 32 years, it has been subject to a constant programme of restoration, improvement and maintenance. It comes with a massive history file with invoices for various re-sprays, re-trims and engine rebuilds.

Unlike a lot of SP’s it remains in remarkably original condition but has been discreetly improved with a brake servo, anti-tramp bars and telescopic rear shock absorbers (the original lever arm units are included should the new owner wish to revert to the original set-up.) Police details that remain on the car are an operational Winkworth bell, correct style driving light, non working radio and microphone, aerial, passenger footrest and radio interference suppression kit on the engine. Like all Met Police cars it also has the desirable automatic gearbox with a cable operated device that holds in the intermediate gear for crisper performance while chasing criminals around town!
